Lincoln, Neb. – The Nebraska soccer team (7-3-0, 1-1-0 Big Ten) fell to Michigan, 2-1, in front of 954 fans at Barbara Hibner Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
The Huskers’ lone goal came from Haley Hanson with seven seconds left on the clock. Hanson’s fifth goal of the season, and second goal of the weekend, came off an assist from Sydney Miramontez. Hanson has scored seven goals in her last 12 games, dating back to last season, after scoring once in her first 32 career games.
Nebraska outshot the Wolverines, 13-6, including a 7-4 advantage in shots on goal. Freshman goalkeeper Aubrei Corder saved two of Michigan’s shots on goal in 90 minutes of action.
The Wolverines took a 1-0 lead in the 28th minute when Reilly Martin scored off a penalty kick. A Nebraska handball inside the box gave Michigan the short-range opportunity. In the 61st minute, Michigan’s Abby Kastroll scored off an assist from Ani Sarkisian to give the Wolverines a 2-0 edge.
The Huskers hit the road next weekend for a pair of Big Ten matches. NU faces Ohio State on Friday, Sept. 23 at 7 p.m. (CT) before battling defending national champion Penn State on Sunday, Sept. 25 at 1 p.m. (CT).
