Lincoln, Neb. – The Nebraska soccer team (7-2-0) dominated from start to finish to defeat Michigan State, 2-0, in the Big Ten opener for both teams at Barbara Hibner Stadium on Friday night.
Senior Jaycie Johnson got the Huskers started with her fourth goal of the season in the fourth minute. Johnson’s header came off an assist from Nikki Turney. Johnson took three shots, two of which were on goal, in 84 minutes of play on Friday night.
Johnson’s goal marked the 35th of her career, which is tied for eighth in program history. It also marked her 13th career game-winning goal, good for fifth-most in Nebraska history. After not scoring in the first five games this season, Johnson has four goals in the last four games.
Junior Haley Hanson scored her fourth goal of the season in the 25th minute. Hanson has six goals in her last 11 games, dating back to last season, after scoring once in her first 32 career games.
Freshman goalkeeper Aubrei Corder earned her third shutout of the season and collected two saves in 90 minutes of action. The Huskers outshot the Spartans, 12-5, including an 8-2 edge in shots on goal.
