Corvallis, Ore. --- Brenna Ochoa's shot found the net from 25 yards out in the first minute of the second overtime to help the Nebraska soccer team defeat Oregon State, 2-1, on Sunday.
Nebraska (3-1-0) and Oregon State battled back and forth for most of the first half, but neither team was able to score until the 45th minute. Haley Hanson connected off a corner kick from Sydney Miramontez to give the Huskers a 1-0 lead over the Beavers heading into halftime.
Early in the second half, Oregon State's Sabrina Santarossa tied the game after scoring off a free kick. The Huskers took five shots in the second half, but weren't able to score. Oregon State fired one more shot that half, but didn't score, pushing the game to overtime.
In the first overtime, Miramontez took two corner kicks and Aubrei Corder made one save, but neither team could break the tie.
The game moved to the final period and it didn't take long for Nebraska to get the upper hand. Ochoa's goal, assisted by fellow freshman Meg Brandt, came 50 seconds into the second overtime, giving the Huskers their third win of the season.
Nebraska took 13 shots compared to Oregon State's 11. Hanson took three shots, while Ochoa and Johnson each had a pair. Brandt, Caroline Flynn, Sami Reinhard, Miramontez, Caroline Buelt and Courtney Claassen each had one shot.
Corder recorded three saves for the Big Red.
The Huskers return home on Friday, Sept. 2 to host Kansas at Barbara Hibner Stadium. The game is set to begin at 7:05 p.m. Check huskers.com for more information.
