Huskers Ride Past Bison in Exhibition Match, 4-0

Lincoln, Neb. – The Nebraska soccer team controlled on offense and defense from start to finish in its lone exhibition match, routing North Dakota State, 4-0, at Barbara Hibner Stadium on Saturday night.

Senior Jaycie Johnson, who played her first game since a season-ending ACL tear on Sept. 25, 2015, scored twice to lead NU’s strong offensive performance. Johnson’s first score came in the 37th minute off an assist from Haley Hanson. Johnson added her second goal in the 58th minute off an assist from Caroline Flynn.

Flynn, a fellow senior, also managed to score with a goal in the 61st minute off an assist from freshman Sinclaire Miramontez. Miramontez was among several Husker true freshmen to make an impact in NU’s lone tune-up before the regular season.

Freshman Brenna Ochoa scored Nebraska’s first goal of the game from 20 yards out in the 29th minute. Ochoa, an Omaha, Neb., native, played 50 minutes off the bench.

Freshman Aubrei Corder earned the start at goalkeeper, and notched a shutout in 73 minutes of work. Corder tallied one save, as the Bison only registered two shots on goal for the game. Helena Ferraz, who played six minutes, and Lauren Smith, who entered for 11 minutes, also appeared at goalkeeper for the Big Red.

NU’s offense produced 16 shots compared to NDSU’s six. The Huskers also edged the Bison in shots on goal, 9-2, and corner kicks, 7-1.

The Huskers open their regular season on Friday at Hibner Stadium against Marquette, with kickoff set for 7:05 p.m.
