A record 15 members of the 2016 Nebraska men’s gymnastics team earned All-America Scholar Athlete awards from the College Gymnastics Association (CGA) for their success in the classroom during the 2015-16 academic year.
Ryan Irick, Anton Stephenson, Joshua Everitt, Chris Stephenson, Ethan Lottman, Alex Magsam, Sanjaya Roy, Brenon Sommers, Andrew Zymball and Jordan King earned first-team honors for achieving a grade point average of at least 3.50. Antonio Castro, Austin Epperson, Coleman Tokar, Daniel Leal and Connor Adamsick were named to the second team for finishing with a grade point average between 3.2 and 3.4999. Irick and A. Stephenson were two of only eight gymnasts nation-wide to finish the 2015-16 academic year with a perfect 4.0 GPA. Irick and Lottman were two of 10 gymnasts that were designated First-Team Academic All-America Scholar-Athletes all four years of their eligibility.
The College Gymnastics Association honored a total of 81 individual gymnasts as 2016 first team All-America Scholar-Athletes in men’s gymnastics and 53 second team All-America Scholar-Athletes.
In the team rankings, Nebraska placed third nationally in GPA, with an average of 3.392. William and Mary received its third straight national academic team championship with a combined team grade point average of 3.512, giving the team a record eight national academic team titles since the inception of the College Gymnastics Association team award in 1991. Stanford finished second with a 3.427.
