Wagner, Wolczyk Set for IAAF World Championships

Nebraska track and field athletes Cale Wagner and Brittni Wolczyk will compete at the IAAF World U20 Championships in Bydgoszcz, Poland this week.

Wagner, a Seward, Neb., native, is competing in the decathlon on Tuesday and Wednesday. Wolczyk will compete in the javelin on Wednesday.

Wagner qualified by winning the USA Junior Outdoor Championships decathlon with 7,532 points, earning him the No. 9 ranking in the world for U20 athletes. Wolczyk qualified by finishing second in the javelin at the Canadian Junior Championships at 163-11 (49.96). 

The two are coming off standout freshman seasons for the Huskers. Wolczyk was a second-team All-American and the Big Ten runner-up in the javelin. Wagner finished eighth in the decathlon at the Big Ten Championships.
