EUGENE, Ore. - The NCAA Track & Field Outdoor Championships concluded on Saturday at Hayward Field with the women's finals. Two Huskers - Tierra Williams and Reka Czuth - competed and earned first-team All-America honors.
Williams, a junior from Auburn, Neb., finished fifth in the triple jump with a best leap of 43-10 1/2 (13.37) on her third attempt to earn first-team All-America honors, just as she did during the indoor season. Williams needed a strong jump on her third attempt to reach the final as she was in 16th place, and that's what she accomplished with a mark of 43-10 1/2 (13.37) to move up to fifth, the same position she finished in at the indoor championships. The four-time Big Ten champion this year earned two first-team All-America honors in the triple jump and one second-team honor in the long jump.
Czuth, a sophomore from Pecs, Hungary, finished eighth in the high jump after making it over 5-11 1/2 (1.82) on her second try. The Big Ten outdoor champion earned first-team All-America honors for the first time after earning second-team All-America at the indoor championships. She was perfect on the opening height (5-8) and cleared the next two heights (5-10 and 5-11 1/2) on her second tries.
The duo combined to score 5.0 team points for the Husker women, which gave them a tie-for-46th finish in the team standings. On Friday, the Husker men tied for 10th with 17.0 team points, led by Nick Percy's national title in the discus.
The Huskers finished with five first-team All-Americans and eight second-team All-Americans at the outdoor championships.
