No. 75 Huskers Falls to No. 53 Illinois

Champaign, Ill. – The No.75 Nebraska dropped a tough 4-1 loss at  No. 53 Illinois Sunday afternoon in Champaign.

The Huskers fought a tough roster in doubles action, including the No.46 nationally ranked Fighting Illini duo of Louise Kwong and Ines Vias. Maggy Lemhicke and Lisa Andersson fell to the pair in No.1 doubles, 6-0. Illinois clinched the doubles point, as the duo of  Alexis Casati and Daniela Pedraza Novak posted a 6-4 win over NU's Katerina Matysova and Mackenna Maddox-Herr. After Illinois claimed its second doubles match against the Big Red halting Mary Hanna and Vasanti Shinde’s match unfinished. Hanna and Shinde were up on their opponents 5-3.

Katerina Matysova claimed the only win of the day for Nebraska at the No.5 singles position. Matysova sprinted through two competitive sets to bring home a 6-3, 6-3 victory over Jerricka Boone, 6-3, 6-3. It marked her second win of the weekend, as she remained unbeaten in Big Ten competition.

Lehmicke, Andersson and Vasanti Shinde all dropped matches to their Illini competitors and left the final score 4-1.

With the loss, the Huskers fell to 17-4 on the season and 4-3 in Big Ten action, while Illinois improved to 10-6 overall and 4-1 in Big Ten action.

The Huskers are on the road next week, as they travel to Penn State on Friday, April 8.
