Huskers Fall to No. 4 Ohio State 4-0

Minneapolis, Minn. - The Nebraska men's tennis team run in the Big Ten Tournament ended Friday, as the Huskers fell to fourth-ranked Ohio State, 4-0. 

The Huskers (14-13, 4-7 Big Ten) were looking for their second straight win over a ranked opponent after Thursday's first-round win over Wisconsin. 

Nebraska pushed Ohio State (28-2) in doubles, as the point went down to the deciding match. At No. 3 doubles, Andrew Dzulynsky dropped a 6-1 decision to the OSU duo of Matt Mendez and Hugo Di Feo. The Huskers bounced back at No. 1 doubles, as Dusty and Toby Boyer snagged a 6-3 victory over Mikael Torpegaard and Martin Joyce. Coming down to the No. 2 position, Marc Herrmann and Scott Elsass fell 6-4 to Herkko Pollanen and Ralf Steinbach, giving Ohio State the doubles point advantage. 

Ohio State took control of the match in singles, earning wins at No. 2, No. 6 and No. 1 doubles to advance to Saturday's semifinals. 

At No. 2, Herrmann and Chris Diaz competed in a quick match where Diaz prevailed with a 6-1, 6-2 win over Herrmann. 

At No. 6, Tomislav Antoljak took on Martin Joyce, as Joyce earned a 6-2, 6-4 triumph, putting the Buckeyes at 3-0 over the Huskers. 

Wrapping up singles play at No. 1, Dusty Boyer had a rough match against Torpegaard, as Boyer fell 7-6 (4) in the first set followed by 6-3 in the second. 

"It was a tough match today," said Head Coach McDermott. "Ohio State played very well and deserved the win. We improved a ton this year as a team, especially because we lost some close 4-3 matches to ranked schools early in the year. Most teams would have given up, but our team held strong and in the end we got better and ended up winning four conference matches. We will be back into next week's ITA National Rankings which has been one of our team goals."
