No. 75 Huskers fall to No. 41 Northwestern

Evanston, Ill. – The No. 75 Nebraska women’s tennis team  fell to No. 41 Northwestern on the road Saturday by a final score of 5-2.

Doubles action started in the morning on the Wildcats tennis courts where the Huskers battled tough duos, keeping the final scores tight all the way. Mackenna Maddox-Herr and her partner Katerina Matysova put up a close match against Jillian Rooney and Maddie Lipp at No. 3 doubles, ending with a 6-4 result. Though losing the doubles match as a pair, Maddox-Herr and Matysova each earned singles win to pace the Huskers, who dropped to 17-3 on the season and 4-2 in Big Ten action.

Also falling in doubles action was Big Red team Mary Hanna and Vasanti Shinde. Hanna and Shinde posted a close 6-4 final score against Lee Or and Erin Larner at No. 1 singles.The loss dropped Hanna and Shinde to 15-2 on the season.

Securing one of the two team points for Nebraska, Maddox-Herr earns her first victory against a conference opponent. The match win came at the No.6 singles spot against Lee Or with a 6-2, 6-2 win.

Sophomore Katerina Matysova displayed her well-executed technique and continued her singles hot streak with a 6-2, 6-3 win over Brooke Rischbieth at No. 5 singles, as Matysova earned her 11th win of the year.

Nebraska will be back in action against the Illinois Fighting Illini on Sunday at 11 a.m. in Champaign
