Huskers Fall to No. 9 Michigan in Home Finale

Lincoln – The Nebraska women's tennis team dropped its regular-season home finale with a 5-2 loss to No. 9 Michigan on Sunday at the Sid and Hazel Dillon Tennis Center.

Despite the loss, the Huskers finished the regular season with a 17-8 overall record that included a 4-7 Big Ten mark heading into the conference tournament. Michigan improved to 17-4 and remained in a tie atop the Big Ten standings at 9-0.

Nebraska jumped to a 1-0 lead in the dual by capturing the doubles point against the Wolverines. Mary Hanna and Vansanti Shinde stormed to a 6-2 victory at the No. 2 spot, as the duo improved to 17-4 on the season.

The Big Red secured the point when the No. 1 doubles team of Maggy Lehmicke and Lisa Andersson fought hard for a 6-4 victory over Brienne Minor and Kate Fahey.

Andersson was the only Husker to enjoy an unbeaten dual, as the junior rallied from a 6-0 loss to Michigan's Alex Najarian at No. 5 singles in the first set to win the second set 7-5 and the third set 13-11. It was Nebraska's longest tie-break set of the season.

The Wolverines picked up the remainder of the singles matches at No.1, No.2, No.3, No.4 and No.6 to give Michigan the win.

The Huskers will enjoy the next week off from competition as they prepare for the Big Ten Championships, April 28 through May 1 in East Lansing, Mich.
