Lincoln, Neb. - The Nebraska women's tennis team were unable to score a win on Senior Day, falling to Michigan State, 6-1, Friday afternoon at the Dillon Tennis Center.
With the loss, the Huskers fell to 17-7 overall and 4-6 in Big Ten play, while MSU improved to 11-9 and 3-5 in conference play.
Kicking off the dual with doubles, Katerina Matysova and Mackenna Maddox-Herr competed against Davina Nguyen and Athena Trouillot at No. 3 doubles, but dropped the set by a 6-4 court. MSU clinched the doubles point at No. 2 doubkles, as MSU's team of Emily Metcalf and Emily Meyers earned a 6-2 win over the Huskers' Mary Hanna and Vasanti Shinde. Maggy Lehmiche and Lisa Anderson took on Erin Faulkner and Allie Bear at the No. 1 spot, but did not complete their match, ending at 5-5.
In singles competition, Michigan State opened with a win at No. 4 singles, as Emily Metcalf posted a 6-2, 6-3 victory over over Katerina Matysova.
At No. 1 singles, Maggy Lehmicke and Erin Faulker battled it out in a tight first set before Faulker earned a 7-5 win. Faulkner took control of the second set with a 6-2 win to give the Spartans a 3-0 lead. The Spartans earned another straight-sets win at No. 6 singles, as Emily Meyers posted a 7-5, 6-1 win over Mackenna Maddox-Herr to clinch the match.
Lisa Anderson earned the Huskers' sole victory at No. 5 singles, posting a 6-1, 6-3 sweep of Aslina Chua. MSU closed the match with straight set wins at No. 3 and No. 2 singles.
The Huskers return to the Dillon Tennis Center on Sunday, April 17, as they take on the No. 9 Michigan Wolverines at 10 a.m. in the final home match of the season.
