Huskers Fall to No. 52 Purdue

West Lafayette, Ind. -  The Nebraska women's tennis team (12-2) fell to No. 52 Purdue in its first road match of the spring season by a final score of 5-2.

Competeting in fierce doubles action, star doubles duo Mary Hanna and Vasanti Shinde brought home the only doubles win for the Huskers. Hanna and Shinde battled through a tie-break set against Andjela Djokovic and Marta Ruedas-Burgos to post a final score of 7-5. The pair stays undefeated on the season, as they elevated their season doubles record to 11-0.

Senior Maggy Lehmicke continued to express her refined skills as she secured a team point for the Huskers at her No.1 singles spot. Lehmicke made quick work of her first set against Purdue's Nicole Robinson, before falling in the second set. After the match made its way into the third set Lehmicke snatched victory from Robinson with a 6-1, 4-6, 6-3 final score.  

Still leading the team with combined wins, Vasanti Shinde notched Nebraska's other team point for the morning, with a score of 5-2. Shinde battled through two tough sets, falling in the second, to start a third set on the No.4 court to settle the score. Three points into the final set, Shinde's opponent Natalia Davila retired and Nebraska recieved its final team point.

Sydney Harlow, Katerina Matysova, Mary Hanna and Lisa Andersson all fought hard through singles matches, but fell to their Purdue counterparts.
