Huskers Beat Badgers

Lincoln- Maggy Lehmicke and Vasanti Shinde each earned a pair of victories to lead the Nebraska women’s tennis team to a 4-3 victory over Wisconsin Sunday afternoon at the Sid and Hazel Dillon Tennis Center.

With the team win, Nebraska improved to 17-2 overall and 4-1 in the Big Ten while notching its fifth consecutive victory.

The Huskers blazed through doubles action with the senior Lehmicke and Lisa Andersson rolling to a 6-3 win over Wisconsin's Lauren Chypyha and Lauren Burich at No. 1. The Husker tandem notched its ninth win of the season and third in Big Ten play.

Shinde and her partner Mary Hanna added a big 6-2 victory over UW's Ekaterina Stepanova and Sydney Rider at No. 2 doubles to secure the team point for the Huskers. Shinde and Hanna improved to 15-1 overall, and owns five more wins than any other NU duo so far this season.

Katerina Matysova kept the Huskers rolling in singles action, as the sophomore from Erding, Germany cruised to a 6-0, 6-1 victory over Burich at the No. 5 spot.

Lehmicke then grabbed Nebraska's third team point with an impressive 6-1, 6-2 win over No. 54 Chypyha at No. 1 singles. The Kirkland, Wash., native notched her 13 singles win of the season.

Shinde wrapped up the team victory for the Big Red by powering her way to a 6-0, 6-3 win over Wisconsin's Kendall Kirsch at the No. 4 spot. Shinde improved to 15-4 overall on the season with the victory.

Nebraska will hit the road for Big Ten Conference play over the next two weekends before returning home for Senior Day against Michigan State on Friday, April 15 at the Dillon Tennis Center. Admission to the remainder of the home matches this season is free.
