Nebraska Sweeps Saturday Matches

Lincoln- The Nebraska women's tennis team swept its Saturday matches against Big Ten Conference opponent Rutgers (4-0) and in-state rival Omaha (4-0) at the Sid and Hazel Dillon Tennis Center.

Vasanti Shinde, the reigning Big Ten Women's Tennis Athlete of the Week, and her partner Mary Hanna starred in No. 2 doubles action against both Rutgers and Omaha, notching a pair of wins to remain unbeaten at 13-0 on the spring season. Hanna and Shinde defeated Chloe Lee and Ksenija Tihomirova of Rutgers, 6-2, and Molly Matricardi and Janelle Wilson of UNO, 6-3, to help secure the doubles point for Nebraska in both matches.

Also picking up a doubles win for the Big Red against Rutgers was Katerina Matysova and Mackenna Maddox-Herr with a 6-3 finish over Lindsey Kayati and Lee Levy. Against UNO, Maggy Lehmicke and Lisa Andersson teammed up for a 6-3 victory at No. 1 doubles after not finishing their first match of the day against Rutgers after Nebraska had already secured the doubles point.

In singles action, Lehmicke went 1-0 on the day at the No. 1 spot, posting a swift 6-1, 6-3 win against Gina Li of Rutgers. Andersson also added one win on the day at No. 3 singles with a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Rutgers' Tihomirova. Shinde was victorious against UNO's Janelle Wilson (6-2, 6-0) at No. 4 singles, while Matysova was the only Husker to finish both singles matches, winning twice at No. 5 singles. Matysova earned a 6-1, 6-0 victory against Rutgers' Lindsey Kayati followed by a 6-0, 6-0 sweep of UNO's Kenzie Hill. At the No. 6 spot, Maddox-Herr earned a 6-2, 6-2 victory over UNO's Rebecca Stafford.

Nebraska improved to 14-2 overall on the season with the two wins, while the victory over Rutgers gave the Huskers a 2-1 record in Big Ten play. NU returns to action on Tuesday, March 22, with a match at Cal State Fullerton.
