Lincoln - The Nebraska women's tennis team ended its weekend on a positive note Sunday at the Sid and Hazel Dillion Tennis Center, where the team swept the Colorado State Rams, 7-0.
After a tough loss to No. 32 Wichita State Saturday, the Huskers returned to their winning ways on Sunday to improve to an impressive 7-1 on the season.
A solid Valentine's Day crowd watched as No. 1 doubles pair Mary Hanna and Vasanti Shinde earned a 6-2 win over the Rams' Aina Hernandez-Soler and Madison Porter. Also conquering a Colorado State doubles team and notching the team point for the Huskers was the pair of Mackenna Maddox-Herr and Sydney Harlow. Maddox-Herr and Harlow produced a close 6-4 victory over Maddie Buxton and Laia Hernandez-Soler.
In singles play, Maggy Lehmicke finished her No. 1 singles match first, securing a 6-2, 6-2 win over Hernandez-Soler. Following suit was Katerina Matysova with an impressive 6-1, 6-1 victory over Buxton. Also claiming a victory was Shinde, who won a close 6-4, 6-4 match over Celine Voss.
Bringing in the last three wins for Nebraska to secure the sweep were Hanna, Paula Del Cueto Castillo and Maddox-Herr. Hanna pulled the biggest set comeback set of the season, rallying for a 6-3, 7-5 finish over Emily Kolbow. Del Cueto Castillo made her Husker debut in a fantastic display resulting in a 6-4, 6-3 win. Maddox-Herr won the last match of the day, pulling out a three-set victory over Madison Porter, 6-1, 1-6, 6-3.
Following its seventh win in eight tries, Nebraska will be back in action on Friday, Feb. 19, at 5 p.m. against Miami (Ohio) at the Dillon Tennis Center. Admission into the match is free.
