Lincoln, Neb. - The Nebraska women's tennis team produced its second victory of the season against Eastern Michigan on Friday, defeating the Eagles, 5-2, at the Sid and Hazel Dillon Tennis Center.
All three doubles pairs were victorious for Nebraska, earning the Huskers the doubles point. Maggy Lehmicke and Lisa Andersson paired up at the No. 1 doubles spot and notched the Huskers' first win of the day with a 6-4 victory over Eastern Michigan's Klara Supejova and Andrea Martinovska. Mary Hanna and Vasanti Shinde won at the No. 2 spot (6-3) and Katerina Matysova and Mackenna Maddox-Herr also earned a 6-3 victory at No. 3 doubles.
In singles play, Lehmicke posted a close 6-4, 6-3 win at No. 1 singles over Supejova. At the No. 3 spot, Andersson cruised to a 6-0, 6-3 win over Martinovska. Shinde was the third Husker to post a sweep in singles play, besting Anna Veleva, 7-6, 6-3. Hanna was the fourth Husker to win her singles match, winning a hard fought battle against Marie Mayerova. Hanna won the first set, 6-3, before Mayerova took the second set, 6-3. Hanna was outstanding in the third set, taking the match with a 6-2 victory.
Lehmicke, Hanna, Andersson and Shinde all improved to 2-0 on the season with their victories on Friday.
Eastern Michigan picked up its two wins at the Nos. 4 and 6 spots. Matysova dropped a tight match for the Huskers at No. 4 singles, falling to Ani Gogvadze, 7-5, 6-4. At the No. 6 spot, Maddox-Herr took the first set from Renu Sharma before Sharma rallied to win the final two sets.
After winning its first two matches of the season, Nebraska will return action at the Sid and Hazel Dillion Tennis Center on Sunday, when the Huskers will face the Air Force Falcons at 9 a.m. (Central). Admission to Sunday's match is free, and live stats will be available on Huskers.com.
