Huskers Sweep North Dakota 7-0 in Dual Match

Lincoln, Neb. - The Nebraska men's tennis team won its second dual of the day on Saturday with a 7-0 win over North Dakota at the Dillon Tennis Center. The Huskers defeated UNO, 6-1, in their first dual on Saturday.

The Huskers were dominant against the Fighting Hawks. All three doubles teams won to give Nebraska the doubles point. Chris Schindler and Tomislav Antoljak posted a 6-0 victory at the No. 3 spot, and Scott Elsass and Marc Herrmann earned a 6-2 victory at No. 2 doubles, securing the doubles point for the Husker squad. At No. 1 doubles, Bradford Zitsch and Andrew Dzulynsky took on North Dakota's Dave Bergstrom and Travis Lau in a tight match-up that resulted in a tie-breaker. Tied at 6-6, the Huskers took control in the tie break to win the tiebreaker, 7-2, and give Nebraska clean sweep.

In singles play, Antoljak made quick work of Joe Lee, grabbing the first singles point for the Huskers with a 6-1, 6-1 victory at the No. 5 spot. Dusty Boyer dispatched Dave Bergstram, 6-2, 6-1, at the No. 1 spot to keep the Huskers' momentum going. Dzulynsky capped a strong performance by securing the dual win for Nebraska at No. 4 singles against Travis Lau. Dzulynsky won 6-2 in the first set and took the second set, 6-0.

The winning ways continued for the Huskers at No. 2 singles with Herrmann defeating Ty Misialek, 6-3, 6-2. At the No. 6 spot, Elsass posted an impressive 6-1, 6-0 victory over Ethan Varma. Finishing the dual, Toby Boyer topped Connor Oberle at the No. 3 spot. In the first set, the two went back and forth with Boyer eventually overtaking Oberle, 6-4. In the second set, Boyer took full control and came out on top with a 6-0 finish.

Head coach Kerry McDermott was pleased with his team's performance on Saturday, when the Huskers went 2-0.

"It's good to get two wins under our belt," McDermott said. "We didn't know a whole lot about North Dakota, they seemed like a pretty disciplined team. It was good for us to get a win. I thought our team played well.

"We're getting ready for next week. We have some big battles with Oregon and Denver and these two matches were good preparation for next week."

The Huskers will resume their regular season next Friday, Jan. 29 at 7 p.m. when they will battle Denver at the Dillon Tennis Center. Live scoring will be available on Huskers.com.
