Huskers Carry On In Second Day of Competition

Honolulu, Hawaii - The Nebraska men's tennis team encountered its second day of competition on Wednesday at the Rainbow Warrior Invitational hosted by the University of Hawaii. The team showed excellent athleticism going 5-3 in singles and 3-1 in doubles during the day's match-ups.

Dusty Boyer began his singles competition against Florida State's Aziz Dougaz, where Dougaz took the win by scores of 7-6 and 6-3.Marc Herrmann earned a victory against Hawaii's Marcel Chan, 6-2, 6-1. Andrew Dzulynksy also claimed a win against Florida State's Terrell Whitehurst. Dzulynsky had a rocky start, losing the first set 3-6, but came back to win 6-3, 6-4. 

Newcomer Tomi Antolijak suffered a loss against Igor Kolaric, falling 6-3, 6-4. Scott Elsass was outstanding against Kula Companion of Hawaii, winning 6-0 in the first set followed by a 6-1 victory to close out the match. Wrapping up singles, Chris Schindler competed against Hawaii's Joakim Pinola in a 6-4, 6-2 loss.

Nebraska also had a strong day in doubles competition begining with the win of the brother duo Dusty and Toby Boyer facing against Kai Wehnelt and Felix Albert of Hawaii. The highly competitive match saw the Boyers win a narrow 8-6 decision. Chris Schindler and Tomi Antolijak grabbed a win as well against Jack Haffey and Parker Evertsen of Florida State, 8-5. Marc Herrmann and Scott Elsass earned Nebraska's third win in doubles competition against Hawaii's Ruben Blattner and Joakim Pinola with another 8-5 Husker victory.

Andrew Dzulynsky and Bradford Zitsch fell to Florida State's Marco Nunez and Benjamin Lock,8-2, in Nebraska's lone doubles loss on Wednesday.

"We had a pretty good day again going 5-3 in singles play and 3-1 in doubles," said Head Coach Kerry McDermott. "The heat was a little stronger today, and I felt the guys did a pretty good job of adjusting to the conditions and learning to battle for each and every point in all of their matches.

"As long as we continue to work hard, compete, and work on improving then good things will happen."
