Huskers Keep Pace with No. 1 Kentucky in Smallbore

Lincoln, Neb. — Despite a great effort and a higher smallbore score, the No. 8 Nebraska rifle team was not able to take down top-ranked Kentucky on Saturday at the NU Rifle Range. The Huskers fell to the Wildcats by a score of 4,645 - 4,676. 

The Huskers had a one-point lead on the Wildcats after firing a 2,312 in smallbore. Denise Martin had the top score for Nebraska with 584.  Rachel Martin added support with 578. Maggie Mical and Nina Radulovic followed closely behind, firing 576 and 574 respectively. Kentucky, led by Sonya May’s score of 591, finished smallbore with a 2,311.  

Kentucky bounced back quickly in air rifle and gained enough ground to overcome the Huskers. Hanna Carr fired a 595, while Heather Kirby and May tallied 591 and 590 respectively. Nebraska fought hard, but was unable to keep up with the Wildcats after smallbore. D. Martin had the highest score again for the Huskers with 587.   Jaycee Carter and Radulovic finished with scores of 584 and 583 respectively. 

The Huskers are back in action on Nov. 21 for the final home match of the season.  Nebraska takes on Akron beginning at 8 a.m. There will be another free brunch for fans in the lower level of the Military and Naval Science Building beginning at 10 am. Saturday’s match also marks senior day for Denise Martin, Marissa Major, Maggie Mical and Alexandrea Lorentz.
