Five Nebraska softball players earned All-America Scholar-Athlete recognition from the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) for the 2014-15 academic year.
Earning recognition by posting a grade-point average of 3.5 or higher for the academic year were Mattie Fowler, Gina Metzler, Kylee Muir, Steph Pasquale and Lotte Sjulin. The five honorees highlighted another successful academic year for Nebraska, which has produced more softball academic All-Americans than any other program in the country.
Fowler and Sjulin were also named Big Ten Distinguished Scholars, while Fowler was an academic all-district selection. Nine of a possible 11 Huskers earned academic All-Big Ten honors in 2015, and all nine honorees have been recognized in every eligible season of their careers.
The Huskers also excelled on the field in 2015, winning 35 games, advancing to the championship game of the Big Ten Tournament and qualifying for its 23rd NCAA Regional appearance, where the Huskers were eliminated in a 10-inning loss at No. 5 LSU.
In addition to leading the nation in softball academic All-Americans, Nebraska softball ranks in the top 15 in NCAA history in NCAA Tournament appearances (23), NCAA Tournament victories (60) and Women's College World Series appearances (7).
