Huskers Earn Six Wins Against No. 47 Penn State

Kansas City, Mo. - Nebraska produced its most successful day in singles during the three-day Missouri Invitational, as the Husker women's tennis team battled its way to six singles wins against No. 47 Penn State on Sunday at the Plaza Tennis Center.

Senior Maggy Lehmicke (Kirkland, Wash.) got the Big Red off to an impressive start against the Nittany Lions by notching a three-set (4-6, 6-0, 6-3) victory over PSU’s Ekaterina Blik. The singles win gave Lehmicke, who added a pair of doubles wins earlier in the tournament, three wins on the weekend.

Fellowr senior Mackenna Maddox-Herr (McKinney, Texas) also notched her third win of the weekend with a 6-2, 6-3 victory over Penn State's Liyin Xu. It was Maddox-Herr's third singles win of the tournament.

Lisa Andersson (Varberg, Sweden) recorded her team-best fifth win of the weekend another come-from-behind win for the Big Red, dropping the first set before storming back for a 4-6, 6-0, 6-1 win over Penn State's Daria Sapogova.

Sophomore Katerina Matysova (Erding, Germany) produced Nebraska's most sensational comeback Sunday morning with a 5-7, 6-3, 7-6 (9) victory over PSU's Kelly Mengel. It was Matysova's second singles win of the weekend and third overall victory of the tournament.

Junior Mary Hanna (Saline, Mich), who paired with Matysova for a doubles win earlier in the weekend, added her fourth overall victory of the weekend with a 6-0, 6-0 singles win over Penn State's Hannah Kratky on Sunday..

Husker freshman Sydney Harlow (Omaha, Neb.) added a 6-0 win over Kratky in an extra singles match for the Big Red.
