Four members of the Nebraska women’s gymnastics team were named to the Big Ten Distinguished Scholar award list, announced by the Big Ten on Wednesday. Seniors Amanda and Jennifer Lauer and Desire’ Stephens join sophomore Jennie Laeng for the coveted award in 2014-15.
This honor marks the third for both of the Lauers, who recently graduated with degrees in nutrition science this past May. Stephens, a double major in English and advertising and public relations, picked up her first Big Ten Distinguished Scholar Award, while Laeng (psychology) also captured her first career accolade for the 2014-15 season.
In all, 62 Nebraska student-athletes were named to the Big Ten Distinguished Scholar list amongst the 781 total across the Big Ten. The list includes students from every institution and 38 different sports who have recorded a minimum grade-point average (GPA) of 3.7 or higher for the previous academic year.
