Lincoln - For the second straight game, a big inning propelled the Nebraska softball team past Northwestern, as the Huskers secured the series victory with a 9-5 win over the Wildcats on Saturday afternoon.

After using a seven-run inning to claim a 10-2 win on Friday, the Huskers trailed 2-0 before a nine-run fourth inning on Saturday. Nebraska then held on for its season-high-tying fifth straight win after Northwestern scored three times in the sixth inning. With the win, Nebraska improved to 25-18 on the season and moved to 12-4 in conference play.

Sophomore Cassie McClure did it all for Nebraska on Saturday, including earning the win to improve to 8-2 on the season. In 3.0 innings of relief, McClure allowed three runs on five hits. At the plate, McClure went 2-for-3 with four RBIs, including her second career grand slam and first as a Husker.

Senior Steph Pasquale and sophomore MJ Knighten also produced a pair of hits for the Big Red, with Pasquale driving in two and Knighten adding one RBI.

In the circle, freshman right-hander Kaylan Jablonski earned the start and allowed two runs on six hits in 2.2 innings. Junior right-hander Emily Lockman pitched the final 1.1 innings, allowing only a walk.

Olivia Duehr (0-1) took the loss for Northwestern in a complete-game effort. The Wildcats fell to 20-17 on the season and dropped to 8-5 in Big Ten play.

Northwestern scored the game's first run in the top of the second, cashing in a leadoff double on a two-out, RBI single from Brooke Marquez.

The Wildcats stretched their lead to 2-0 with another two-out, RBI single in the top of the third. Northwestern threatened to add more with the bases loaded and two outs before McClure got the second batter she faced to ground out to second and end the inning.

After being frustrated offensively through the first three innings, Nebraska batted around and scored five times in the bottom of the fourth. Senior Kylee Muir and McClure began the inning with consecutive singles. Both runners moved up a base on a passed ball before Muir scored the Huskers' first run on a sacrifice fly from junior Mattie Fowler. Freshman Laura Barrow then scored McClure with an RBI double.

Tied 2-2, junior Kiki Stokes walked before Knighten delivered an RBI double to left. Junior Alicia Armstrong then singled before Pasquale scored two with an RBI single up the middle. Leading 5-2, McClure capped the inning when she lined a 3-2 changeup off the scoreboard in left for her first grand slam as a Husker.

Northwestern answered back in the top of the sixth. Back-to-back doubles and a sacrifice fly cut the Husker lead to 9-3. With a runner on second and only one out, Fran Strub lined a ball to the gap in left center where Stokes made a terrific diving catch. Sabrina Rabin then beat out her fourth infield single of the day to drive in a run and cut the lead to 9-4. Rabin then stole her fourth base of the game and scored on a bloop single from Andrea DiPrima. With the Husker lead trimmed to four, Lockman entered the game and issued a walk before coaxing an inning-ending ground out.

Lockman then retired the side in order in the top of the seventh to secure the win.

Nebraska and Northwestern are scheduled to wrap up their series on Sunday at 3 p.m. The game is scheduled to be televised live on the Big Ten Network.
