Huskers Qualify for NCAA Championships

Lexington, Ky. --- The Nebraska rifle team fired a combined score of 4,690 at the NCAA Qualifiers in Lexington, Ky. on Sunday, giving the team a chance to compete at the NCAA Championships in March. The team score tied a school record for the second-best score in program history.

The Huskers started the day off strong, finishing with a smallbore score of 2,327.  Rachel Martin and Lauren Phillips led the way for NU with scores of 585 and 582, respectfully.  Denise Martin shot a 581 and Kelsey Hansen fired a 579.

Nebraska's hot shooting continued in air rifle as well. Four Huskers finished with scores of at least 590 including Denise Martin who tallied a personal-best air rifle score of 592.  Rachel Martin scored a 591 while Lauren Phillips and Jaycee Carter both ended the day with scores of 590.  The team finished with an air rifle score of 2,363, tying the program's record for best air rifle score.

The Huskers compete next for the conference title on Feb. 28 in Oxford, Miss. The start time has not yet been announced.
