Huskers Fire Season-Best 290 to Finish 12th

Las Cruces, N.M. – The Nebraska men’s golf team closed its fall campaign on Tuesday by firing its best score of the season (290) en route to a 12th-place finish at the Herb Wimberly Intercollegiate.

The Huskers finished with a 37-over-par 889 total at NMSU Golf Course, a par-71, 7,242-yard layout. On Monday, NU opened with 293 before posting 306 in the second round.

Senior Mike Siwa notched his best finish of the season in three starts with a tie for 30th. Playing as an individual outside of the Nebraska lineup, Siwa carded 1-over-par 72 in Tuesday’s final round to produce a 54-hole total of 4-over-par 217. On Monday, the Omaha, Neb., native shot 74 and 71.

Josh Reinertson managed a tie for 48th at 8-over-par 221 to lead the Huskers in the team lineup. The senior from Gibbon, Neb., posted 75 on Tuesday after carding 71 and 75 in the first two rounds.

Ross Dickson and Justin Jennings each tied for 56th at 11-over-par 224. Jennings, making his fifth appearance of the season, led NU on Tuesday with 1-under-par 70 in the final round. The score marked his best of the season in 13 rounds, and Nebraska’s best for the tournament. Dickson shot 74 after scores of 74 and 76 in the first and second rounds, respectively.

Calvin Freeman and Ben Maschka each finished at 12-over-par 225 to tie for 61st. Freeman carded 76 in Tuesday’s final round after 73 and 76 on Monday. Maschka fired his best round of the season in two events with an even-par 71.

The Herb Wimberly Intercollegiate marks Nebraska’s final tournament of the fall season. The Huskers will open the spring campaign Feb. 14-15 at the Big Ten Match Play Championship at Hammock Beach Resort in Palm Coast, Fla.
