The Nebraska swimming and diving team travels to Ames, Iowa, on Saturday, Oct. 18, to face the Iowa State Cyclones in the Huskers' third meet of the season. The competition will take place in Beyer Hall at 10 a.m..
Saturday will mark the second time in October that the Huskers have traveled to Iowa for a meet. Nebraska opened up the regular season in a double dual against Iowa and Michigan in Iowa City. The Huskers are coming off their first victory of the season, defeating Nebraska-Omaha 187-107 on Saturday.
Nebraska is 32-4-1 all-time against Iowa State. The last time the two programs met was a year ago at the Devaney Natatorium, where the Huskers and Cyclones finished in a 150-150 tie. Saturday's meet will be Iowa State's second regular-season meet of the year. The Cyclones will open their season Friday, Oct. 17, against South Dakota State.
Following Saturday's meet, the Huskers will have two weeks off before they travel to Brookings, S.D., to take on South Dakota State. That meet will be on Saturday, Nov. 1, at 1 p.m.
Last Time Out: Huskers Cruise Past Mavs in Home Opener
The Nebraska swimming and diving team won 13 of 16 events on the way to a 187-107 victory over Nebraska-Omaha at the Devaney Natatorium Saturday.
Taryn Collura, Anna Filipcic and Cassandra Brassard each earned two victories for the Huskers in their regular-season home opener.
The Big Red began the meet with a victory in the 200-yard medley relay. NU's squad of Jacqueline Juffer, Sam Hardewig, Collura and Rebekah Land finished in a time of 1:48.47. The Huskers swept the relay events, with the team of Collura, Amanda Moran, Brassard and Natalie Morris finishing first in the 400-yard freestyle with a time of 3:38.49.
In the meet's second event Collura captured her first victory of the day in the 200-yard freestyle, racing to a time of 1:56.95. Collura also captured a victory in the 100-yard butterfly, swimming to a winning time of 57.46
Nebraska's second of three multiple event winners, Brassard earned her first victory in the 100-yard backstroke. The freshman raced to a time of 58.62. Her second victory came in the 500-yard freestyle, swimming to a time of 5:15.55.
Nebraska swept the breaststroke events on Saturday. In the 100-yard breaststroke Jordan Ehly raced to a first-place finish with a time of 1:05.80, while Hardewig earned a victory in the 200-yard breaststroke in a time of 2:28.23.
In the diving well, Filipcic captured both the one- and three-meter titles. Filipcic scored 309.45 and 337.65 in the one- and three-meter dives, respectively.
Nebraska also saw individual victories from Bria Deveaux, Erin Oeltjen and Katt Sickle. Deveaux earned a victory in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 24.74. Oeltjen captured the title in the 200-yard backstroke in a time of 2:07.66, while Sickle posted a winning time of 2:12.38 in the 200-yard individual medley.
