The No. 9 Nebraska rifle team completed a weekend sweep at the NU Rifle Range on Sunday. The Huskers defeated No. 14 Ole Miss by a score of 4,653-4,576, after beating No. 5 Murray State on Friday.
In smallbore the Huskers outscored the Rebels by 63 points, thanks to tremendous performances by Denise Martin and Rachel Martin who fired 580 and 579 respectively. As a team, Nebraska finished with a total smallbore score of 2,307.
Jaycee Carter snatched a 590 in air rifle, while Lauren Phillips fired a 586 to give the Huskers a comfortable lead. The Huskers ended with a final air rifle score of 2,346.
For Ole Miss, Ali Weisz shot a 569 in smallbore and Jess Haig tallied a 588 in air rifle, but despite a good effort by the Ole Miss team, the Rebels were not able to get the win.
This marks the final home match of Nebraska’s fall season. The Huskers begin a series of road matches as they travel to South Carolina to face NC State on Oct. 18 and Army on Oct. 19. Both matches begin at 8 am.
