Maricopa, Ariz. – The Nebraska men’s golf team shot 306 in the final round of the Wyoming/Southern Dunes Collegiate Invitational on Sunday to finish in sixth place.
The Huskers produced a 54-hole total of 30-over-par 894 at Ak-Chin Southern Dunes Golf Club, a par-72, 7,500-yard layout. NU opened with 291 in Saturday’s first round before posting 297 in the second round. Idaho took home the tournament title with a 10-under-par 854 total.
Senior Ross Dickson turned in a final-round 77 on Sunday, making three birdies in the process. He tied for 11th individually to earn his best finish of the season in three starts. On Saturday, Dickson carded 70 and 71.
Freshman Niko Vui, making his second collegiate start, tied for 16th at the Wyoming/Southern Dunes Collegiate Invitational. Vui birdied the par-3 fourth hole in the final round en route to 6-over-par 78. The Samoa native added 72 and 71 in the first two rounds for a two-day total of 221.
Senior Calvin Freeman fired the best score of the day for Nebraska with his 75 in the final round. The Table Rock, Neb., native birdied Nos. 7 and 14 on Sunday on his way to a tie for 22nd. He produced a 54-hole total of 223 after shooting 71 and 77 on Saturday.
Justin Jennings tied for 42nd after an 8-over-par 80 on Sunday, while Josh Reinertson paced his way to 4-over-par 76. Reinertson showed successive improvement from round to round during the tournament to finish 46th. Jennings managed two birdies in the final round to finish at 237 in a tie for 42nd.
Mike Siwa and Ben Maschka each played as individuals outside of the NU lineup. Siwa carded a final-round 78 to earn a 45th-place finish at 240. Maschka shot 244 for the tournament after an 85 on Sunday to tie for 47th.
The Huskers return to action Oct. 13-14 at the Bill Ross Intercollegiate at Milburn Country Club in Overland Park, Kan.
