Erie, Colo. – The Nebraska men’s golf team opened the Mark Simpson Colorado Invitational with 3-over-par 291 before the second round was shortened due to weather on Monday.
The Huskers are in 10th place and have played five holes in the second round. The tournament has been shortened to 36 holes, with play resuming on Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. (CT).
Senior Calvin Freeman matched his career low round with 4-under-par 68 at Colorado National Golf Club, a par-72, 7,771-yard layout. The Table Rock, Neb., native is in third place individually and trails tournament leader David Oraee of Colorado by four strokes heading into the final day.
Seniors Josh Reinertson and Ross Dickson are each tied for 42nd after carding 2-over-par 74 in the first round. Reinertson made two birdies and four bogeys over the first 18 holes, while Dickson managed four birdies, four bogeys and one double bogey on Monday.
Sophomore Justin Jennings posted 3-over-par 75 in the opening round and sits in a tie for 54th. He birdied the par-3 16th hole, but made four bogeys en route to his first-round total.
Niko Vui, making his first career start at Nebraska, birdied the par-3 14th hole and added four bogeys and two double bogeys for a 79.
Play was suspended twice during Monday’s action, as all groups finished between five and seven holes in their second round. Live scoring is available at Golfstat.com, but only 18-hole scores are official.
