Erhart Leads Huskers at Rice Invitational

Houston - Linus Erhart advanced to the quarterfinals in the singles main draw to lead several solid performances for the Nebraska men's tennis team at the Rice Invitational over the weekend.

Erhart, a freshman from Austria, went 3-1 in the main draw, opening with a hard-fought 6-4, 6-7 (5), 10-3 victory over Mario Muniesa from Texas-Arlington. Erhart advanced with a solid 6-4, 7-6 (5) straight sets win over Rice's Henrik Munch.

In his third match, Erhart faced Nicholls State's Partha Adavelly, who opened the tournament with a 6-4, 6-4 win over Husker sophomore Chris Schindler. Erhart won the first set 7-5 and was tied at 1-1 in the second set before Adavelly was forced to retire from the match.

In the quarterfinals, Erhart dropped a 7-6 (2), 6-2 decision to Rice's David Warren.

Junior Dusty Boyer came up just short of a trip to the quarterfinals of his own, opening the tournament with a bye before rolling to a straight-set 6-3, 6-4 victory over UTA's Sebastian Erimicioiu. Boyer then suffered a 2-6, 6-3, 10-8 loss to Lamar's Nikita Lis, who defeated NU's Bradford Zitsch, 6-3, 6-3 in the previous round. Zitsch opened the tournament with a 7-5, 6-3 victory over Nicholls State's Bernard Wezeman.

Junior Andrew Dzulynsky notched a pair of wins at the tournament, opening with a 2-6, 6-4, 10-8 win over Texas A&M's Max Montague. Dzulynsky added another hard-fought win with a 6-4, 4-6, 10-3 victory over UTSA's Tito Moreiras, before suffering a 6-2, 6-3 setback to Baylor's Tony Lupieri.

Husker junior Marc Hermann picked up a 6-0, 6-2 victory over Arizona's David Mushayev, before dropping a 6-4, 6-0 decision to Tulane's Constantinn Schmitz.

Sophomore Vasileios Stavropolous added a singles win at the tournament with a 6-2, 6-3 victory over Tulane's Cedric Rutsaert, before dropping a 6-3, 6-1 decision to Rice's Adam Gustafsson.

Junior Scott Elsass, sophomore Charlie Shin and freshman Chris Hobgarski also competed at the 61-player invitational.

In the doubles main draw, Zitsch and Boyer teamed up for a pair of victories to lead the Husker contingent. The Big Red duo opened with a 6-3 victory over SMU's Nathaniel Lammons and Tony Russell, before advancing by withdrawal over Nicholls State's Evan Karatza and Sam Meessen. Zitsch and Boyer were knocked out in the quarterfinals with a 6-3 loss to Lamar's Michael Feucht and Nikita Lis.

The Huskers continue their fall schedule with ITA All-American Championships in Tulsa, Okla., Sept. 27-Oct. 5.
