Nebraska Ends Fall Season with 10-2 Victory

Lincoln - The Nebraska softball team completed a doubleheader sweep of Creighton with a 10-2, six-inning victory in game two Sunday at Bowlin Stadium in the Huskers' final game of the fall season.

Sophomore right-hander Emily Lockman earned a complete-game victory in the circle, allowing only two runs on five hits. Offensively, the Huskers produced 10 hits, led by multi-hit games from senior Tatum Edwards and freshman MJ Knighten. Tatum Edwards finished 2-for-3 with a homer and a walk, while Knighten was 3-for-4. Senior Taylor Edwards also homered in the win while producing a game-high three RBIs. Junior Mattie Fowler also produced multiple RBIs, driving in two.

In the bottom of the first, Tatum Edwards led off with an infield single before Knighten followed with a bunt single. With runners on first and second, Taylor Edwards blasted a 2-0 pitch into the wind and beyond the frence in left center for a three-run homer.

Tatum Edwards then sent the first pitch of the bottom of the third inning over the fence in right field for a solo home run that gave the Huskers a 4-0 lead.

Liz Dike answered in the top of the fourth with a leadoff solo home run of her own. A two-out, RBI double from Bri Lingl then trimmed the lead to 4-2.

The Huskers answered in the bottom of the fifth. Knighten reached on a one out single before she was forced out at second base. With a runner on first and two outs, sophomore Hailey Decker walked before senior Kylee Muir produced a two-out RBI single to bring home freshman pinch runner Lotte Sjulin. Sophomore Dawna Tyson then followed with another two-out RBI single to score Decker and push the Husker lead to 6-2. Fowler capped the four-run frame with a two-run double over the left fielder's head.

Nebraska ended the game with a two-run sixth inning. Tatum Edwards began the frame with a walk and scored on an RBI double from Knighten. Then with two outs, Knighten scored when Decker beat out an infield single to bring the run-rule into effect.

Nebraska ended its fall exhibition season with a 7-1 record. With the fall now complete, the Huskers will return to practice in January 2014 before opening the regular season at the Hotel Encanto Invitational in Las Cruces, N.M., Feb. 7-9.
