Red Team Wins Series Finale

Lincoln - After dropping the first two games of Nebraska's annual Red-White Series, the Red squad captured a 7-4 win on Thursday night at Hawks Field to escape a three-game sweep. The Red team jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the first inning and never looked back.

Rich Sanguinetti and Taylor Fish each produced two hits on the night, including a double by Fish, while Blake Headley delivered the biggest hit of the game with a bases-clearing triple in the first that scored three runs.

On the mound for the Red team, junior Tyler King went 4.0 inning in the six-inning game, as he gave up just one run on five hits, while striking out one.

Pat Kelly and Jake Placzek each pounded out a pair of hits for the White team, while Josh Scheffert hit a triple and Michael Pritchard hit the only home run of the series, a two-run homer off the right field foul pole.

The Red-White Series concludes Nebraska's fall practice and the Huskers now enter winter conditioning. Nebraska opens the 2013 season on Feb. 15 in Bakersfield, Calif., against the CSU Bakersfield Roadrunners and opens at home on March 1 with a three-game series against New Mexico.
