Palm Desert, Calif. - After two weeks off, the Nebraska men's golf team will compete in its first stroke play event of the spring on Saturday and Sunday at the Wyoming Desert Intercollegiate at The Classic Club in Palm Desert, Calif.
The Huskers will be playing in the Wyoming Desert Intercollegiate for the third time in the event's four-year history. The Classic Club, a par-72, 7,305-yard layout, will play host to the 54-hole event. Play will begin on Saturday with a shotgun start at 9:30 a.m. (Central Time). The second round will tee off following the first round on Saturday. The final round will start at 9:30 a.m. (Central Time) on Sunday.
Scott Willman will represent the No. 1 spot in the Husker lineup. The senior led NU's scoring in four out of five fall tournaments, producing top-20 results on every occasion. Willman's stroke average for the season is 72.87, which is the best on the team.
Manuel Lavin will also play in a familiar position as the No. 2 player. Lavin, a sophomore, has the second-best scoring average on the team, with 74.60 strokes per round. He has competed in every event for Nebraska this season and produced the best Husker finish of the 2011-12 campaign with his runner-up result at the season-opening Fairway Club Invitational.
Husker newcomer Ryan Grassel will make his stroke play debut for Nebraska at the Wyoming Desert Intercollegiate. The sophomore transfer from Sonoma State University went 1-2-0 at the Big Ten Match Play in his first career start for the Huskers. He will be No. 3 in the NU lineup.
Playing in the No. 4 spot is Neil Dufford. The junior has competed in every round for the Huskers during the 2011-12 campaign, producing a 75.86 stroke average, which is third on the team. Dufford's top finish on the season was a tie-for-seventh at the Fairway Club Invitational.
Rounding out the Husker lineup is Jordan Reinertson in the No. 5 position. The junior from Gibbon, Neb., is making his third start of the season. Reinertson competed at the Big Ten Match Play, where he compiled a 1-2-0 record. His season stroke average in three rounds is 81.00.
