Nebraska Set to Face Former Big 12 Foe in Oklahoma

After completing its first two matches of the season, the No. 40 Nebraska (1-1) men's tennis team will travel to Norman, Okla., to take on a former Big 12 foe in the No. 20 Oklahoma Sooners (2-1). The Huskers' match against the Sooners will take place on Saturday, Feb. 4, 2012, at the Gregg Wadley Indoor Tennis Pavilion. First serve is set for 1 p.m.

Both squads are coming off a weekend of play at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association's Kick-Off Weekend.

History with the Sooners
In 2011, the No. 26 Oklahoma Sooners visited the No. 38 Nebraska Cornhuskers and defeated them, 5-2. The Huskers started the match off by winning the doubles point when they won two of the three doubles matches. In singles play, however, Nebraska came out flat and was only able to win one match.

Last Week at the ITA Kick-Off Weekend
The Huskers went 1-1 last weekend in Athens, Ga., as they competed in the Kick-Off Weekend. The Huskers faced two ranked teams in No. 34 Virginia Tech and No. 51 TCU.

Nebraska opened its weekend against No. 34 Virginia Tech by winning the doubles point to take an early lead. The match was tied, 3-3, and it came down to junior Eric Sock, who was playing on the No. 5 court. Virginia Tech's Corrado D. Tocci downed Sock, 6-4, 7-6 (8-6), to win the Hokies' their fourth point and clinch the match, 4-3. In their second match, the Huskers defeated No. 51 TCU, 4-0.

Senior Lindheim Has Undefeated Weekend
Nebraska's senior co-captain Benedikt Lindheim went 2-0 in singles play this past weekend. He also went 1-0 in doubles play with playing partner Christopher Aumueller. Lindheim is ranked No. 78 in singles play and is on the No. 7 doubles team with teammate Aumueller.


Huskers Fall a Spot to No. 40
In the latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association Rankings released on Feb. 2, the Huskers fell a spot to No. 40 after going 1-1 this past weekend.

Scouting the Oklahoma Sooners
Oklahoma is 2-1 on the year and ranked No. 20 in the country. The Sooners have five players ranked in singles play, including No. 4 Costin Paval, No. 38 Tsvetan Mihov, No. 39 Peerakit Siributwong, No. 53 Guillermo Alcorta and No. 63 Dane Webb. The Sooners also have three teams ranked in doubles play. Leading the way for OU is the duo of Paval and Webb who are ranked No. 14. Ranked No. 38 is the team of Mihov and Siributwong and the third team is ranked No. 57 that includes Alcorta and Lawrence Formentera. Oklahoma is coached by John Roddick. Roddick is in his third season at the helm and has a career record of 35-16 (.686) at Oklahoma.
