Huskers Conclude Play at Gopher Invitational

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – The Nebraska men’s tennis team concluded play at the Gopher Invitational on Sunday when they competed in singles and doubles play.

 

The Huskers began Sunday when the faced off against Denver in doubles play.

 

In Group B of doubles play, Denver’s team of Alex Clinkenbeard and Jens Vorkefeld defeated Nebraska’s team of Robert Schultze and Tom Blackwell, 8-6.

 

In Group A singles play, Minnesota’s Leandro Toledo was victorious over Nebraska’s Andre Stenger in straight sets, 6-4, 6-4. Toledo was the Group A winner going 4-0 this weekend. Also in Group A play, Minnesota’s Phillip Arndt downed NU’s Tom Blackwell, 6-2, 6-2.

 

The Huskers had two players competing in Group B singles action. In the first match, Minnesota’s Julian Dehn was victorious over NU’s Eric Sock, 6-4, 7-6 (4). In the second match, Minnesota’s Mathieu Froment downed NU’s Drew Freeman, 7-5, 7-6 (2).

 

The Huskers have completed their fall schedule. The Huskers will open spring play at the ITA Kick-off Weekend when they face Virginia Tech on Jan. 29, 2012 in Athens, Ga.
