Huskers Sign Three Golfers from Arizona for 2012-13

Lincoln, Neb. - Nebraska Head Coach Bill Spangler announced the addition of three golfers for the 2012-13 season on Friday.

Kolton Lapa, Aaron Wong and Jimmy Kozikowski are all Arizona natives that signed with the Huskers. "We expect all three to come in and contribute right away," Spangler said.

Lapa hails from Mesa, Ariz., and has loads of experience from playing on the Junior Golf Association of Arizona as well as the Desert Junior Golf Tour. Lapa tied for third at the 2011 PING Arizona Junior Masters and finished second at the 2010 Longbow Open. He also has experience from competing at the 2011 Hogan Cup Team Matches in August.

Wong, a Chandler, Ariz., native, has also competed on the Junior Golf Association of Arizona, along with the Future Collegians World Tour. Wong tied for seventh at the 2011 State Junior Golf Championship in Arizona and tied for third at two events in 2010: the Omni Tucson National 54-hole Event and the Antiqua/Milt Coggins Arizona Junior Stroke Play.

"Kolton and Aaron know each other from having competed against each other in junior golf," Spangler said. "Both have had success at the national level in AJGA events."

Kozikowski is a junior college transfer from Mesa, Ariz. He tied for first at the 2010 Mesa City Championship and got to compete in the 2009 Junior PGA Championship, where he tied for 30th. In 2010, Kozikowski qualified for the Arizona Open, finishing 30th.

"Jimmy is from South Mountain Junior College in Phoenix, where he garnered All-American honors," Spangler said.
