Lincoln - The Nebraska baseball team will open its annual Red-White Series this Thursday at Hawks Field, with first pitch set for 7 p.m. Game two of the series is slated for 5 p.m. on Friday and the series will conclude on Saturday at 11 a.m. Admission is free for all three games of the Red-White Series and the Husker Grill concession stand will be open at Hawks Field. Parking will be free on Thursday and Friday, but fans will have to pay $25 for all-day parking on Saturday as the football team hosts Ohio State Saturday night.
The Huskers, who have been practicing at Hawks Field for nearly a month, return 21 players from last year's squad that are joined by 20 newcomers on Head Coach Darin Erstad's first team. Also new to the Husker staff are assistant coaches Will Bolt and Ted Silva, as well as volunteer assistant Jeff Christy.
The Huskers' 56-game schedule in 2012 starts with 10 games on the road before NU host its home opener against former Big 12 foe Kansas State on Tuesday, March 6. The Huskers will play eight Big Ten Conference series, with the only conference teams not on the schedule including Penn State and Michigan State, as well as Wisconsin, which doesn't have a baseball program.
