Lincoln - The Nebraska swimming and diving team is hitting the road for the first time this season to participate in the Holiday Inn and Suites Med Center Invite in Houston, Texas. The Huskers will be competing against Arkansas, Boise State, Houston and Rice in the two-day event. The invite will mark the first of three total invites the Huskers will participate in this season. The swimmers will head to the TYR Invitational in Evanston, Ill. on Nov. 18 and the diving squad will travel to the Iowa Invite in Iowa City, Iowa on Dec. 2.
The Holiday Inn and Suites Med Center Invite will be conducted in three sessions, beginning on Friday, Oct. 28 at 4 p.m. On Saturday, the morning session begins at 9 a.m., and the event will conclude with the 1:30 p.m. session.
The Huskers are coming off a win in their first event of the season against South Dakota State. The Huskers handled the Jackrabbits, 199-93. Nebraska won the first 13 events of the day en route to the win. Following the Med Center Invitational, the Huskers will return to the Devaney Natatorium for a Nov. 11 dual against the University of Nebraska - Omaha.
Pool Points:
+ Ariel Weech has been competing at the Pan American Games during the last week. She set a lifetime best time of 57.58 in the 100-yard freestyle for a ninth-place finish overall in the event. Weech was representing the Bahamas. She also placed 12th overall in the 50-yard freestyle and helped the Bahamas to a sixth place finish in the 4x100 freestyle relay.
+Hayley Martin and Payton Michaud each earned multiple wins against South Dakota State. Martin won the 50-yard freestyle (24.94) and the 100-yard freestyle (53.41), while Michaud swept the 1-meter dive (265.95) the 3-meter dive (290.40).
Review: South Dakota State:
The Nebraska swimming and diving team defeated the Jackrabbits of South Dakota State, 193-99, last Saturday at the Devaney Natatorium. The win marked the Huskers' eighth win all-time against the Jackrabbits. The Huskers have never lost to SDSU.
Ten different Huskers contributed wins on the day. Payton Michaud won both the 1-meter and the 3-meter dive (265.95, 290.40), while Hayley Martin won the 50-yard freestyle (24.94) and the 500-yard freestyle (53.41). Bailey Pons, Kelly Dunn, Rebekah Land, Shannon Guy, Natalie Morris, Morgan Flannigan, Kristin Strecker and Ellan Dufour also added wins for the Huskers.
Ashley Valdez and Morgan McLain of South Dakota State won the two final individual events of the day for South Dakota State. The Jackrabbits also took the 400-yard freestyle relay.
