Midland, Texas—Nebraska women’s tennis duo Madeleine Geibert and Stefanie Weinstein have reached the Midland Invitational final after posting a 2-0 record on Saturday in the tournament.
Geibert and Weinstein defeated Texas A&M’s Sheri Oliver and Dané Vorster by a score of 8-5. The pair advanced to the semifinal round, where they made quick work of TCU’s Millie Nichols and Olivia Smith, 8-2.
In singles action, Geibert and Veresova’s play in the main bracket came to an end as both fell in the round of 16. Pepperdine’s Arianna Colffer topped Geibert in a tight match, 7-6 (3), 7-6 (3). Veresova was defeated by Ale Granillo of Pepperdine, 6-2, 7-5.
In the consolation quarterfinal, UT-Arlington’s Maria Martinez toppled Frederike Putthoff, 6-4, 6-2. An additional singles match was also played between Stefanie Weinstein and Texas Tech’s Caroline Starck. Weinstein came out victorious in the matchup, 6-2, 6-4.
Geibert and Weinstein’s bid for the Midland Invitational doubles title will continue tomorrow in the tournament final. This is the first time the duo has reached a fall tournament final in doubles action.
