Huskers Complete Day One at Midland Invitational

Midland, Texas--The Nebraska women's tennis team completed day one of competition at the Midland Invitational on Friday. Madeleine Geibert, Patricia Veresova, Stefanie Weinstein and Frederike Putthoff all competed in singles, logging a 4-2 record overall. In addition, Geibert and Weinstein competed in doubles and went 1-0.

The day began with the first round of singles between 64 competitors. No. 3 seed Madeleine Geibert and No. 7 seed Patricia Veresova both received byes in the first round.

Stefanie Weinstein topped Kristin Eggleston of New Mexico, 6-2, 6-3 in her first competition of the fall season. Teammate Frederike Putthoff fell to Natalie Beazant of Rice, 6-3, 6-1.

In the second round of singles action, Madeleine Geibert toppled TCU's Kelsey Sundaram, 6-1, 7-6 (4). Patricia Veresova followed up with a sweep of Nikola Matovicova of UT-Arlington, 6-1, 6-0. In the final singles match of the second round for NU, Stefanie Weinstein fell to Dominique Harmath of Rice, 7-6 (4), 6-4.

In consolation action, Frederike Putthoff defeated Megan Moore of Pepperdine, 6-4, 6-4.

The day moved on to doubles play, where No. 2 seeded Geibert and Weinstein received a first-round bye. In the second round, they logged an 8-5 win over Pepperdine's Natalia Mayuk and Giada D'Ortona. 

The Midland Invitaitonal will continue on Saturday, where Geibert and Weinstein will compete in the doubles quarterfinal. Veresova and Geibert will also see action in the third round of 16 competitors.
