Dennard Named to Thorpe Award Watch List

University of Nebraska cornerback Alfonzo Dennard picked up his third watch list recognition of the summer, as he was named to the Jim Thorpe Award watch list on Monday. The Thorpe Award recognizes the nation's premier defensive back.

Dennard joined with 2010 Thorpe Award finalist Prince Amukamara in 2010 to lead a Blackshirt defense that ranked in the top five nationally in pass efficiency defense and passing yards allowed. Dennard totaled 30 tackles, four interceptions and seven pass breakups in 2010. He has been a two-year starter at cornerback at Nebraska, totaling 66 tackles, including 43 solo stops, 15 pass breakups and four interceptions in helping the Huskers to consecutive 10-win seasons in 2009 and 2010.

Dennard, who has been named to the Bednarik and Nagurski watch lists in 2011, was one of four Big Ten players chosen for the Thorpe Award watch list on Monday.  The Thorpe Award winner is selected from three finalists and will be announced at The Home Depot College Football Awards on Dec. 8, 2011 on ESPN.
