Kyler Reed finished one of the top careers for a Nebraska tight end during a productive senior season in 2012. Reed and fellow senior Ben Cotton teamed to give Nebraska one of the top tight end tandems in the Big Ten each of the past two seasons.

The 6-3, 230-pound Reed created mismatches for opposing defenses with his speed and play-making ability, and he also had the ability to make an impact as a blocker on the perimeter. Reed was one of five Huskers with at least 20 receptions in 2012, totaling 24 receptions for 357 yards and two touchdowns. Reed averaged nearly 15 yards per reception in 2012 and 15.9 yards per catch in his Nebraska career. The Kansas City area native had a season-high five catches in the opener against Southern Miss and had two receptions in seven other games. Reed's play as a senior earned him honorable-mention All-Big Ten honors.

Reed, Cotton and the Nebraska wideouts were a key part of the Husker passing game providing an excellent complement to one of the nation's top rushing attacks. Nebraska led the Big Ten in total offense, and the Huskers topped 430 yards of total offense 12 times in 14 games.

With his receiving totals in 2012, Reed moved into the top 20 on both Nebraska's career receptions (67) and career receiving yardage list (1,063). Reed's 67 catches are the second-most in school history for a tight end, and he is one of just five tight ends in NU history with more than 1,000 receiving yards. Reed also had 11 career touchdowns.
Reed graduated in December with a degree in business administration and was one of 17 Nebraska seniors who will play in the bowl game as a graduate.

2012 (Senior)
Southern Miss: Was a focal point of the offense with a career-high five catches, including his 10th career touchdown... his 57 receiving yards ranked second on the team... TD reception came on an 18-yard pass from Taylor Martinez to put NU up 35-17 in the third quarter. UCLA: Hauled in two balls for 28 yards, including a 16-yard reception. Arkansas State: Caught one ball for a then-season-long catch of 22 yards. Idaho State: Hauled in one pass for 13 yards in NU's 73-7 win over ISU. Wisconsin: Caught two passes for 21 yards, including a 10-yard TD reception in the third quarter... TD catch was the second of the season for Reed and the 11th of his career, leaving him three TD catches from the Nebraska tight end record of 14. Ohio State: Did not catch a pass against the Buckeyes. Northwestern: Started against the Wildcats and hauled in two balls for 36 yards, including a 20-yard catch in the second quarter. Michigan: Was one of nine players to catch a pass... hauled in two balls for 23 yards... both catches resulted in a Nebraska first down. Michigan State: Caught a pair of passes for a team-high 41 yards, including a then-season-long 38-yard reception on 4th-and-10 in the fourth quarter with less than one minute to play that continued NU's game-winning drive. Penn State: Had two receptions for 60 yards, including a season-long 56-yard reception in the fourth quarter on 3rd-and-5 from the NU 34-yard line... Taylor Martinez connected with Jamal Turner three plays later to give NU is first lead of the game, 27-23... with his 60 receiving yards Reed became the fifth tight end in Nebraska history to surpass 1,000 career receiving yards. Minnesota: Caught a pair of passes on the day for 24 yards... both catches came on NU's final drive of the first half. Iowa: Saw time off the bench at tight end, but was not targeted in the game. Wisconsin (Big Ten Championship): Played in his 50th career game at Nebraska... caught a pair of passes for 29 yards, including a 16-yard grab in the first quarter. Georgia (Capital One Bowl): Caught one pass for three yards to increase his career receptions total to 67 and his career yardage total to 1,063 yards.

2011 (Junior)
Reed played in 12 games and made starts against Wyoming, Michigan, Iowa and South Carolina. He finished the year with 15 catches for 257 yards and his 17.1-yard per catch average led the team. Reed had five catches in non-conference play, including a 53-yard catch on a key scoring drive against Fresno State and a 44-yarder at Wyoming. Reed had a season-high three catches against Ohio State, before missing the Minnesota game with an injury.

Reed added two catches against Northwestern and tied his season-high with three catches for 40 yards at Penn State, including a 24-yard catch to set up a touchdown. He added a single catches against Michigan and Iowa, with his first touchdown catch of 2011 coming on a six-yard pass from Taylor Martinez against the Hawkeyes.

2010 (Sophomore)
Reed played in all 14 games and made 10 starts as Nebraska regularly opened in two tight end sets. He finished third on the team with 22 receptions for 395 yards, good for a team-leading average of 18.0 yards per catch. His team-leading eight touchdown receptions set a tight end record and tied for the fourth-most TD receptions in a season in NU history. Each of Reed's first four touchdowns covered at least 33 yards, and he had six catches good for at least 20 yards. Reed caught at least three passes four times in the season's final six games, and had multiple catches in seven of the final eight games.

Reed had just one catch in the season's first three games, but caught a 33-yard TD pass in the final non-conference game against South Dakota State. At Kansas State, he hauled in a 79-yard touchdown catch, the longest Nebraska pass play since 2003. Reed helped NU to 51 points and a season-high passing effort at Oklahoma State with two catches for 58 yards, including a 41-yard touchdown catch.

In a win over Missouri, Reed had two catches for 51 yards, including a 40-yard touchdown in the first quarter. At Iowa State, Reed had three catches for 52 yards, including a 29-yarder to set up a third-quarter touchdown. He added three catches at Texas A&M, then had a career-high four catches, including two touchdown grabs in the regular-season finale with Colorado.

Reed had three receptions and snared his seventh touchdown of the season against Oklahoma in the Big 12 Championship Game. He closed the season with two catches, including a 15-yard touchdown reception in the Holiday Bowl.

2009 (Redshirt Freshman)
Reed played in 11 games with a start against Florida Atlantic and had six receptions for 54 yards. Reed had a season-long 22-yard catch at Baylor, and had single receptions in five other games, with four of his catches coming in Big 12 action. Reed also saw action on Nebraska's kickoff return unit.

2008 (Redshirt)
Reed redshirted in 2008. He briefly moved to linebacker late in the year before going back to tight end.

Before Nebraska (St. Thomas Aquinas HS)
Reed showed versatility throughout his prep career at St. Thomas Aquinas High School in Overland Park, Kan., playing a significant role on both offense and defense. Reed helped Coach Kevin Kopecky's team to an 8-4 record and a trip to the Class 5A state semifinals--the third straight year Aquinas reached the state semifinals. Reed rushed for 350 yards out of the backfield, but made his biggest impact as a receiver with 500 receiving yards and seven touchdown receptions. He also passed for a touchdown, and was a standout safety on defense.

Reed's performance in leading Aquinas earned him first-team 5A all-state honors from the Kansas High School Coaches Association and honorable-mention all-metro honors from the Kansas City Star. Reed played all over the field as a junior, lining up as a wide receiver, fullback and defensive back for a 10-2 Aquinas team. His performance earned him all-area and honorable-mention all-metro accolades in 2006.

Rivals.com listed him among the nation's top "athlete" prospects and Scout.com listed him among the top 20 weakside linebackers in the country. Rivals and Scout also ranked Reed among the top 10 prospects in Kansas.

Personal
Kyler was born on April 14, 1990, and is the son of Linda Reed and Kenny Reed. He majored in business administration and earned his bachelor's degree from Nebraska in December of 2012. He was named to the Nebraska Scholar-Athlete Honor Roll in the fall of 2012. He was also a member of the 2008 Big 12 Commissioner’s Fall Honor Roll. He was also named to the Brook Berringer Citizenship Team in 2010 and 2012 for his extensive community outreach work. Reed has volunteered his time with School is Cool Week, NFL Play 60, the American Heart Association and local school and hospital outreach events.
