Huskers Win Nine Events at K-State

Manhattan, Kan. - With the Big 12 Championships now just one week away, the Nebraska track and field team traveled to Manhattan, Kan., on Saturday for the Ward Haylett Invitational. With only a small group of athletes in competition, the Huskers came away with nine victories.

Brooke Dinsdale ran the best 800-meter race of her career with a second-place time of 2:07.36. The time bettered her season best of 2:09.13 and career best of 2:08.52, which she set in August of 2006. Katie White added a PR of her own in the 1,500 meter with a winning time of 4:37.13. It broke her previous-best time of 4:39.23.

The women added three wins in the field, as they took the high jump, pole vault and triple jump. Freshman Jillanna Scanlan improved her personal best in the high jump by one inch with a winning leap of 5-8 and Arna Erega took the triple jump with a mark of 40-2. Redshirt freshman Maggie Maher then captured her first collegiate win with a clearance at 11-9 ¾ in the pole vault.

On the men's side, freshman Jodi-Rae Blackwood improved his season-best time in the 400-hurdles for the second straight week. Blackwood clocked a time of 52.31 at last week's Drake Relays and followed with a time of 51.85 on Saturday to win the event. A native of St. Elizabeth, Jamaica, Blackwood owns a personal-best time of 51.56.

The men's 4x100-meter relay improved its standing on the Big 12 performance list with a second-place time of 40.46, which bettered it's previous time this season of 41.33. Kansas State won the race with a school and facility record of 39.46.

Erik Sutterfield captured the Huskers' lone field event win in the pole vault. Sutterfield broke his previous best of 16-7 ½ by over five inches with a vault of 17-0 ¾.

The Huskers will now return to Lincoln to continue preparation for the Big 12 Outdoor Championships in Norman, Okla. NU will open competition on Friday, May 13 at Noon and will then compete at 10 a.m. on Friday, May 14 and 1 p.m. on Sunday, May 15. Check Huskers.com later this week for more information.
