Columbia, Mo. - Andrew Wyatt and Scott Willman tied for seventh at the C.O.G. Mizzou Intercollegiate on Tuesday, leading the Nebraska men's golf team to a tie for third place finish as a team.
The Huskers, who sat alone in second place after two rounds, posted 308 in the third round, following 314 and 301 in the first and second rounds, respectively. NU's 923 total after 54 holes at The Club at Old Hawthorne put the Huskers 23 shots behind team champion and tournament host Missouri. Eastern Michigan finished one shot in front of Nebraska, at 922, and tying for third with the Huskers was Xavier. Nebraska's tie for third result marked their fifth top-5 team finish of the 2010-11 campaign.
Wyatt and Willman paced the Huskers, each shooting 226 for the tournament. The NU pair sat in a tie for fifth after day one and added 76s in the final round, which earned a tie for seventh. Wyatt's result marks his fourth straight top-15 finish and seventh top-15 on the season.
Willman improved on last week's tie for 48th in Florida, earning his fifth top-15 result of the 2010-11 campaign and his second of the spring season. The tie for seventh also marks his best finish of the year, which was previously a tie for eighth at the Kansas Invitational in September.
Brett Nymeyer followed up last week's tie for 11th finish with a tie for 23rd on Tuesday. The senior scored a 4-over-par 76 in the final round, putting his three-round total at 234. Nymeyer earned his third straight top-25 result, while breaking 80 in all three rounds.
Neil Dufford carded an 80 in the final 18 holes, which put his tournament total at 238. He tied for 51st overall, following up his first round 81 and second round 77. Mike Coatman finished in 70th after an 86 in the final round. He produced 246 strokes for the tournament after consecutive 80s on day one.
Missouri's Jace Long won individual medalist honors after shooting 74 on Tuesday. His even-par 216 total finished four shots ahead of fellow Tiger, Stuart Ballingall. Ball State's Alex Stinson shot 6-over 222 for the tournament, which put him six shots off the pace.
The Huskers return to action at the Hawkeye Invitational, April 16-17, in Iowa City, Iowa.
