Four members of the Nebraska rifle team were named to the Academic All-Big 12 At-Large team this week. Senior Ryann McGough, juniors Katie Kostal and Sheena Mahloch and sophomore Joyce Kim all netted first-team honors on the inaugural at-large team.
A total of 161 student-athletes from eight conference institutions received accolades. The at-large team was created to recognize the academic accomplishments of student-athletes who participate in sports outside of Big 12 competition. Sports represented included bowling, competitive cheer, men's gymnastics, equestrian, rifle, rowing and men's and women's skiing.
The academic at-large squad was split into first and second-teams, with first-team honorees achieving a GPA of 3.20 or higher and second-team members holding a GPA of 3.00 to 3.19. To qualify, student-athletes must maintain a 3.00 GPA or higher either cumulative or in the previous two semesters. The nominee must also have participated in 60 percent of their team's scheduled contests. Freshmen and transfers are not eligible in their first year of academic residence.
