Delray Beach, Fla. – Brett Nymeyer shot a 2-under-par 70 in the final round of the Florida Atlantic Spring Break Championship on Sunday, as the Nebraska men’s golf team shot 293 as a team, leading to a seventh place finish.
The Huskers, who sat in third after the first and second rounds, finished with 872 strokes for the tournament. NU’s 8-over-par total fell 20 shots off the pace set by team champion Ohio State, who scored 12-under-par 852 over three rounds. Tournament host Florida Atlantic finished in second place, 11 shots behind the Buckeyes.
Nymeyer, who posted an even-par 216 over three rounds, led the Huskers with his tie for 11th result. He moved up 15 spots on the leaderboard Sunday after being tied for 26th following two rounds of action. Nymeyer’s tie for 11th place marks his best finish of the season, surpassing his tie for 13th at the D.A. Weibring Intercollegiate in October.
Fellow senior Andrew Wyatt tied for 15th overall after shooting 217 over 54 holes. Wyatt posted a 2-over-par 74 in Sunday’s final round, continuing his streak of sub-75 scores to 13 straight. He has finished in the top-15 in each of his last three starts for the Huskers.
Neil Dufford paced his way to a final round 75, which put his three-day total at 220 strokes. The sophomore tied for 24th, which marks his second consecutive top-25 finish.
Mike Coatman tied for 36th overall, amassing 222 strokes for the tournament. He carded a 77 in the final round and produced his fourth-best finish of the season. Coatman shot 38 on the front nine followed by a 39 on the back nine of the final round.
Scott Willman finished with 225 strokes over three rounds and tied for 48th overall. He followed up a first round 77 with a 74s in the second and third rounds. Willman finished with three bogeys and one birdie in his final 18 holes.
Ohio State’s Brad Smith won the individual title by three shots over Alex Medinis of Florida Gulf Coast and Moritz Ackerhans. Smith’s 5-under-par 67 in the final round put his three-day total at 8-under-par 208.
The Huskers return to action April 4-5, when they defend their title at the Mizzou Intercollegiate in Columbia, Mo.
