Primm, Nev. - The Nebraska men's golf team shot a season-low 276 in the final round of the Jackrabbit Invitational on Tuesday, which earned the Huskers fourth place overall.
The Huskers, who sat in fifth place after day one, shot the lowest team score of the final round in the 14-team field at Primm Valley Golf Club. NU fell 22 shots behind team champion, Missouri, who produced a 37-under-par 827 over three rounds. The Tigers prevailed by one shot over second place Idaho at the par-72, 7,090-yard layout.
Mike Coatman, playing as an individual, produced the only top-five result for the Husker team. The senior's 7-under-par 65 in the final round moved him up 12 spots from Monday to a tie for fifth overall. His 65 in the final round and his 207 total for the tournament both marked career-lows for Coatman. He finished eight shots off the pace.
Fellow senior Andrew Wyatt produced back-to-back top-15 finishes with his tie for 11th result. He matched Coatman's 65 in the final round, which also marked a career-low. His 210 total over 54 holes marked a season-low.
Scott Willman and Brett Nymeyer each tied for 14th overall at the Jackrabbit Invitational, posting 213 over three rounds, each season bests. Willman paced his way to an even-par 72 in the final round to follow up his 73 and 68 on the first day. Meanwhile, Nymeyer scored a 70 over the final 18 holes, adding to his 71 and 72 in the first two rounds.
Tying for 18th, Neil Dufford, fired a 2-under-par 70 on Tuesday, which put his 54-hole total at 214, a season-low. The sophomore shot 73 and 71 on Monday as the tie for 18th also marked a season-low.
Junior Austin Zimmerman tied his season-low round of 71 in the final 18 holes, which earned him a tie for 30th, a season-best. The Lincoln, Neb., native compiled a 219 total for the tournament after a 75 and 73 in the opening rounds.
Jace Long of Missouri took individual medalist honors with a 17-under 199 total over three rounds. He won by two shots over fellow Tiger, Stuart Ballingall.
The Huskers, who shot 849 for the tournament, improved their team score in every round. Their first round total of 290 was followed by 283 in the second round and 276 over the final 18 holes. NU's fourth place finish was the best in the last five tournaments, dating back to the D.A. Weibring Intercollegiate in October, where Nebraska finished third.
The Huskers next tee it up at the Florida Atlantic Spring Break Championship, March 25-27, in Delray Beach, Fla.
