Wyatt, Huskers Notch Top-10 Finishes in California

Palm Desert, Calif. - The Nebraska men's golf team finished in 10th place at the Wyoming Desert Intercollegiate on Sunday, led by Andrew Wyatt's tie for ninth result.

The Huskers' team score improved each round throughout the tournament, as NU posted 305 and 297 on Sunday, following Saturday's 309. Nebraska's 911 total at the Classic Club after three rounds fell 32 strokes off the pace, set by team champion Texas A&M. The field consisted of 20 teams.

Wyatt led the Huskers, posting two 74s on Sunday, adding to his 73 on Saturday. His 221-stroke total earned him a tie for ninth, marking the senior's third top-10 result this season.

Scott Willman improved upon his first round score of 79 with a 74 and 77 in the finals two rounds at the par-72, 7,322-yard layout. The junior tied for 41st, producing a 230 for the tournament.

Neil Dufford and Brett Nymeyer tied for 60th at 233 strokes over three rounds. Dufford, a sophomore, added rounds of 82 and 73, while Nymeyer, a senior, shot 81 and 73. Their 73s in the final round matched the Huskers' low for the tournament with Wyatt's first round score.

Tying for 72nd, Mike Coatman finished with 76 and 81 in the final 36 holes. The senior, who shot 236 in California, has competed in every round for Nebraska this season.

Individual honors went to Scott Travers of Santa Clara. He tied with Kevin Penner after 54 holes at 213, but the tiebreaker was determined by final round score. Travers fired a 69, while Penner shot a 74.

The Huskers take two weeks off from competition, then return at the Jackrabbit Invitational, March 14-15, to defend their title from last season.
