Session 4: Huskers Send Five to Friday Finals

Austin, Texas - The Nebraska swimming and diving team continued with the 2010-11 Big 12 Championships Friday morning at the Lee and Joe Jamail Texas Swimming Center in Austin, Texas. The Huskers totaled five qualifying times for the "B" finals on Friday evening. Click here to follow the 2010-11 Swimming & Diving Big 12 Championships.

400-IM - In the first event of the day, the 400-IM, Nebraska sends Blaine Hoppenrath to the "B" finals. Her time of 4:26.93 is a season best, as she qualified with the 13th fastest preliminary time. The finals will be held Friday evening.

100 Butterfly - Two more Huskers qualified for the "B" finals in the 100-fly. It was a preliminary that saw Shannon Guy and Kelsey Grushecky qualify back-to-back tenth and eleventh. Guy swam a career-best 54.54 to qualify for the finals, while Grushecky swam just .38 short of a career-best time. Her time of 54.68 was her season-best time. Lexie Halberstadt also swam a career-best time in the preliminaries at 55.79.

200 Freestyle - Bailey Pons set a career-best time as she qualified for the "B" finals with her time of 1:49.54. She beat her previous career time by over three seconds. She finished her preliminary 13th and will swim in the finals Friday evening. Hayley Martin missed the "B" finals by less than half of one second, but proceeded to set a career-best time in the effort. Her time of 1:50.93 was 1.11 faster than her previous best time.

100 Breaststroke - Shannon Guy qualified for her second "B" final of the day in the 100-yard breaststroke. She qualified tenth with her time of 1:03.05, a new career-best. Ashley Reiter also set a new career-best time in her efforts at 1:05.80.

100 Backstroke - Ellan Dufour, Ariel Weech and Megan Ziemann each set career-best times in the 100-back. Dufour's time of 55.52 missed the "B" finals by a mere .39 hundredths of a second. Rachell McClain also recorded a season-best time in the event at 57.64. Weech, McClain and Ziemann finished 27th, 28th and 30th in the prelims respectively.
